JULIA SHEPARD (CHAIR)

Julia Shepard has expertise in curriculum, learning, staffing, finance, governance, leadership, and student matters gained through sixteen years of headship, including 12 years at Beechwood School. During this time she worked as part of the Slough PFI team to develop new school buildings and a conference centre. As chair of SASH, in collaboration with other secondary head teachers, we successfully initiated a bid for a secondary free school.

JO ROCKALL (VICE CHAIR)

I have been Headteacher of Herschel Grammar School since September 2010. The school was graded outstanding in all areas by Ofsted in September 2012. The school has longstanding partnership arrangements with Haybrook College through the Herschel Pupil Training Centre. This is a very successful provision for key stage 3 pupils across Slough, who are at risk of permanent exclusion. Herschel has funded some of the staffing for this via its Leading Edge status for a number of years. I have been a Haybrook Governor since July 2014.  I am a trustee of both The Schelwood Academy Trust and The SASH School Academy Trust.

I bring to Haybrook a secure knowledge and understanding of curriculum, teaching and learning, and educational leadership and management, and in particular a strong understanding of Slough and its context. Haybrook College delivers very high-quality provision in a unique setup. It is vital to the success of our young people in Slough and I am proud to be involved in the college as a governor.

JAMIE ROCKMAN (Accounting Officer and Chief Executive Officer)

Since September 2018, I have been proud to be the Executive Headteacher of Haybrook College Trust in Slough, an alternative provision and special school. We provide education for over 200 young people who have a wide range of complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) issues, along with providing Pupil Referral Unit services to the Royal Borough of Winsor and Maidenhead.

I joined the College in January 2013 and have held various positions including, Head of Millside School and deputy Headteacher across the College and currently sit on a number of strategic development boards and panels across Slough including, Schools Forum, Slough Education Partnership Board, SEND Partnership Board and Thames Valley Violence Reduction Task Group. I am also Treasurer for the Slough Association of Secondary Headteachers.

Prior to joining the College, I worked in a boy's residential SEMH school in Bucks and various mainstream primary schools in East and South East London. Before I came into education I had a 10-year career at News International Corporation as a Team Leader for News International Newspaper. I bring a wealth of experience from both the private and public sectors including strong leadership, strategic development, and secure financial oversight to ensure our young people receive the best possible education.

ANNE BUNCE

I am recently retired, with my last role being the Virtual School Headteacher in Slough and previously held that role in RBWM. As such I am responsible for the education of children in care with Slough whichever real school they attend.

I am passionate about the education of vulnerable children and have had strong links to Haybrook professionally over many years.

I have been a headteacher in Primary school; a lead school inspector with OFSTED and a Consultant on Primary science. I have had 6 books published on this.

JULIAN CURZON BA (Hons) FCMA

I trained as a Management Accountant, in the Brewery Industry, with exposure across all disciplines within the Finance departments both in Head Office and Regional Breweries. Progressed to Divisional Financial Director in a Commodities trading company in the City and managed numerous businesses and personnel on an international basis, reporting to various government entities. As part of one of the positions, led and managed an operation in Switzerland including setting up the office and managing the tax status.

Following on from this and for the next 16 years was the number two in, initially, a Grant Maintained school, progressing to VA, and then taking the school through the transition to becoming an Academy. The school was amongst the top-performing comprehensives in the country. The role was to manage everything within the school with the exception of the teachers and the curriculum. The school was based on two sites and unusually had two centre numbers. The roles that were directly in the remit were the Finance, Personnel, Payroll, Fundraising, Site services, Catering, IT, and Administration. In addition, the school raised substantial funds from the parents and this was managed by the Finance department.

SAJID KHALIQ

I have worked in the state education sector for over 25 years in inner city areas serving economically disadvantaged communities. Having been raised in socially deprived circumstances in Hackney, London, I am fully committed to levelling up the educational divide to improve life chances for all. My work has been centred around London in the boroughs of Putney, Newham, Barking & Dagenham, and Waltham Forest.  I strive to serve under the most difficult circumstances with great resilience to ensure the best outcomes for the pupils and community. As a leader in Star Academies, I am steadfastly passionate about delivering a world-class education for all pupils, with particular emphasis on curriculum, pastoral, teaching & learning, leadership, and management.

I started my journey with Star Academies several years ago at Eden Girls’ School, Waltham Forest as a Deputy Principal and contributed to the success of hundreds of pupils leaving the school with top grades. I am now the Principal at Eden Girls’ School, Slough where I have been in post since September 2019, continuing to work not only with community members from deprived backgrounds but also during the pandemic which has exacerbated conditions for pupils and the community. Nationally, the school is amongst the highest performing schools in the country and was judged Outstanding by Ofsted in 2018.

JATINDER MATHARU

 I currently work as a Safeguarding Education for Slough Borough Council and have 20 years’ experience working in education, health, and children’s social care; an accredited NSPCC trainer.  I have been an active member of the Safeguarding Partnership over several years and have led on service improvements on safeguarding policy development, meeting identified statutory and non-statutory requirements for new emerging themes such as county lines.  I am Chair of the Safeguarding Communications group.

I have been instrumental in leading on mental health and wellbeing strategy with a ‘whole school approach’ and embedding mental health school teams across all phase education settings across Slough. I am passionate about inclusion in local thresholds ensuring education is included as a right of every child and have

I also provide practical advice and guidance to Samaritans, NSPCC, and strategic oversight and review on cases of hate crime for the Crown Prosecution (CPS) on a voluntary basis.

JIM MCLAUGHLIN

I am a former Soldier, retired Police Officer, and currently the Security Consultant for SEGRO the owners of the Slough Trading Estate where I manage a Business Watch Scheme. I have been the Chair of the Slough PitStop Project Charity for 6 years.

I am a former School Governor at a Primary School in Herefordshire where I live and also a former member of the Board of Governors at Haybrook.

I am married to Annabel who is a nursing Sister and have a son and 2 daughters. My eldest daughter is a SENCO in a Primary School in Edgbaston, Birmingham and her siblings are currently undergoing full-time PGCE training to be teachers in secondary education at the University of Worcester.

RUPERT MORETON

My latest role in education was as Headteacher at Malmesbury School, Wiltshire and previous to that I was Headteacher at Cheney School Oxford.  Cheney School is an inner city school with over 1500 students, over 30% Pupil Premium and BME.  The school was graded Good in March 2018.  Prior to this, I was a Deputy Headteacher at an inner city school in Bristol, where I was also the Chair of the In Year Fair Access and Inclusion Panel for 3 years. 

Before I came into education I had a 13-year career in management consultancy.  I set up and ran my own company for 6 years which had 26 employees and a turnover of over $2 million, and I have also worked for Deloitte Consulting, Price Waterhouse Consulting, UBS, the European Investment Bank, and Cisco Systems.  I have lived and worked in London, Switzerland, Brussels, Amsterdam, Luxembourg, and the United States.

SUZANNE GREEN  (GOVERNANCE PROFESSIONAL)

I have been Clerk to the Board for 13 years and recently completed the ISBL Professional Clerking Programme.

My background is administration with various commercial companies.  I moved into the education sector starting at James Elliman Primary in Slough and then Haybrook in 2010.  I am also a former Governor of Cippenham Nursery School.
